Joe Berg

"I really want to know if I can sing." Richard Thomas had been asked that before. However, on this day, Richard felt that Joe deserved a chance. So before sunset Joe sang several of his favorites at Richard’s studio. Taking shape in both of their minds was the hope that an opportunity would come for Joe to sing with a group of musicians. Then after much thought, time and planning, a number of musicians were found. Music was selected, rehearsed and recorded. And this musical creation is the result.

The sounds of well known crooners seem to have spoken to Joe and he has chosen music from an era that holds his interest. The mix chosen here are the melodies that please him and highlight the orchestra members' abilities. The special group of musicians that have been part of this effort have contributed beautiful performances that encouraged all who were a part of this effort. Richard Thomas has been a huge inspiration and faithful cheerleader for Joe.

Surely Joe's love for music is a family gift, as many other members of the family are musicians. Joe’s father, Harley Berg, was not known for his music but for his television wildlife program. Not many people knew that in the '20s Harley had a dance band and performed throughout Texas. His uncle was known as a golfer but he also was a professional musician. This passion for music has passed to other family members who are polished soloists. Still, a question remained in Joe's mind: "Will my voice have a pleasing sound of its own?" The response to the question is in this performance.

Although Joe states that he wanted to do this for himself to see if he could, he believes that this will provide a treasure for his children and grandchildren and forever express Joe's love for music. The choice of title "It’s Never Too Late" comes from Joe’s rather loosely-identified bucket list.
